Happy Monday!!! We’re continuing to introduce AND celebrate all the talented, hardworking, badass artists that make this company run smoothly!!! Next up is our Grants Director Robert Linder!!!
We asked everyone what drew them to Sundown / why they love this company, and this is what Robert had to say: “I’m in Sundown because I have to make theatre on a fairly regular basis to be happy. I appreciate watching all kinds of theatre as an audience member but when I am going to work on a play myself it needs to be something that really speaks to me. Working on a play is exhausting and to do it well you really have to completely put your entire self into it. That comes easiest to me when I’m working on the type of shows that are most interesting to me. There are a lot of amazing theatre companies run by ridiculously talented artists in North Texas but being a part of Sundown lets me, along with a lovely group of talented and hardworking company members, choose my own projects. I don’t know how to best put into words what all the shows I’ve worked on with Sundown have in common. Certainly they’ve spanned genres, time periods, playwright demographics, and how well known the scripts are by the public. Probably the descriptions of off-beat, and underdone describe them best. Even when Sundown does more widely performed pieces, they are always performed in an unconventional way.
The collaborative nature of Sundown’s process gives everyone a voice in creating a production and a sense of ownership and responsibility for the final product. I’m so proud of everyone in the company for managing to make good art out of our extremely limited resources. It’s incredibly empowering to solve unsolvable problems, and Sundown does it every day. Few people have the privilege of getting to really express themselves in the way they want to the very best of their ability, but that is what Sundown has given me.” "LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY.’ YOU KNOW WHAT I DO WHEN I SEE THAT? … I OBSTRUCT.” – GEORGE CARLIN
Robert Linder is the Grants Director and Secretary of Sundown Collaborative Theatre. He graduated from the University of North Texas in 2009 with a BA in Theatre and English
We’re continuing to introduce AND celebrate all the talented, hardworking, badass artists that make this company run smoothly!!! Next up is our Marketing Director Lindsey Hall!!!
We asked everyone what drew them to Sundown / why they love this company, and this is what Lindsey had to say: “I joined Sundown because I knew it would challenge me creatively by forcing me out of my comfort zone. With such a collaborative company, I knew I'd be able to learn new things, ans to take on creative opportunities I wouldn't find elsewhere. This has proved to be true! I've worked on shadow puppets, learned a killer fake blood recipe, even discovered that I can be a pretty creepy ghost with the right direction. And throughout it all, my voice has been heard and my lil artsy soul has been kept well-fed. I can't wait to see what we all learn next!” - Lindsey Hall “ART WASHES AWAY FROM THE SOUL THE DUST OF EVERYDAY LIFE.” – PABLO PICASSO
Lindsey Hall is the Marketing Director for Sundown Collaborative Theatre. She graduated from UNT in 2011, with a concentration in theatre performance and theatrical makeup design. She has been going to Sundown shows since the company’s inception in 2008 and has performed in several productions (Cafe Des Artistes (2011), Paperbacks (2014), Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns (2016), Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons (2019), and The Woman in Black (2019)). She also serves as standby makeup designer for any shows involving blood/gore (Gruesome Playground Injuries (2013), BUG (2017) and The Pillowman (2018), and The Woman in Black (2019)). She is thrilled to have found and be able to create with this theatre family that has such heart for collaborative and innovative processes and performances.
Hey friends!
Lindsey Hall here, Sundown member and one of the folks leading the upcoming devised piece about love in all its forms, inspired by true events!
Two things!
Please send me all the love stories from your lives. We are looking for real stories from real people. But these don't have to be finished, eloquent pieces. We just want the basics: who was involved, what happened, how did you feel? These stories are not limited to romantic love, but can include any kind of love: platonic, love between family members, love of an activity or art, untequited love, etc etc.
Also, very exciting news, thanks to the incomparable @mayob0y ! For everyone like me who agonizes over every written word (these included if you were wondering) we now have a quick and easy way for you to send us your stories!!
Just call 940-222-6269 and leave your stories there!
Oh, and Second Thing: come out and audition this Saturday and Sunday and make some cool art with us!!
Buckle up y’all!!! We plan on introducing AND celebrating all the talented, hardworking, badass artists that make this company run smoothly.
First up is our Artistic Director Chloe McDowell!!!
We asked everyone what drew them to Sundown / why they love this company and this is what Chloe had to say: “I fell in love with Sundown a long time ago when a pal took me to see a show that her friend directed. The show was called Symphony No. 0 and it was unlike anything I’d ever seen...it was full of experimental movement and heavy silences; it was beautiful and sad and terribly compelling. I started hanging out with Sundown after that, I was drawn to this group of theatre kids that wanted nothing more than to make weird art and break rules and support one another’s talents and projects. And while plenty of the faces in the company have changed over time, we’re still dedicated to making art that is thought-provoking, visceral, and life-altering.
I love Sundown because every single person in this company is an absolute joy to work with. They care about making meaningful art and they all truly enjoy working together as well as collaborating with outside artists and groups. They’re my family and I’m extremely proud of every one of them. I’m very excited about our upcoming projects and I look forward to my future with this company!”
-Chloe McDowell “GO INTO THE ARTS. I’M NOT KIDDING. THE ARTS ARE NOT A WAY TO MAKE A LIVING. THEY ARE A VERY HUMAN WAY OF MAKING LIFE MORE BEARABLE.” -KURT VONNEGUT, JR.
Chloe McDowell is the Artistic Director of Sundown Collaborative Theatre. Chloe has worked as Set Designer for Sundown’s productions of 4.48 Psychosis and Carter Stubbs Takes Flight, Props designer for Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns, designer/creator for done/undone, and Stage Manager for (The Winter’s Tale), Far Away, BUG, The Pillowman, Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons, and most recently The Woman in Black. Apart from Sundown, Chloe is a producer and occasional emcee of Glitterbomb, Denton’s weekly queer variety show, the emcee and Technical Director of Salty Lady Burlesque, and is a printmaker.
And now, for something completely different.
.
We will be returning to our roots with our next show: Love Stories (a working title). This show will be a devised creation that the cast and company developed together. But we need help from the community as well!
.
We need you to send in all your love stories. These are not limited to romantic love either, but may include platonic love, love for you family member, a pet, or anything really. Your stories can be positive, sweet stories, or comedic, even dark (tale of a blind date gone wrong for example). Happy or sad, we want to hear them all, and we are looking for a wide variety! Don't worry about agonizing over a fully formed, eloquently written story. We will be taking all of the submitted stories, choosing as many as we can to form a well-rounded show, and then work shopping them into various art forms. Some may be acted scenes, some told with movement, etc etc depending on our cast of artists.
.
So collaborate with us to make some cool art, and tell us your stories! Then follow along with our progress and come out to the show to see how your story is brought the the stage!
.
All stories can be sent to Lindseyhall@sundowntheatre.org and will be accepted for the entire month of November.
